Peru COE #5 Now Available at La Bohème Café
What is Cup of Excellence?
Cup of Excellence is one of the most respected and strict specialty coffee competitions in the world. Every submitted coffee goes through several rounds of evaluation, during which it is cupped by both local and international judges. Coffees are scored on a 100-point scale based on cleanliness of flavor, acidity, sweetness, complexity, and overall quality. To even qualify among Cup of Excellence winners, a coffee must score at least 87 points. This means we are talking about truly exceptional micro-lots.
Commodity vs. Specialty Coffee
In the coffee world, there is a huge difference between commercial coffee and specialty coffee. Commodity coffee typically scores up to 79 points. It often consists of blends without a clear origin, with flatter flavor profiles and lower acidity quality. Typical notes include wood, cardboard, or bitterness. On the other hand, specialty coffee starts at the 80-point threshold. These coffees have a clean taste, pronounced sweetness, balanced acidity, and a clear sense of origin. They often come from a single farm or a specific lot. And Cup of Excellence coffees represent the absolute peak of this category.
Peru COE #5 now at La Bohème Café
Our new coffee from Peru achieved a fantastic 5th place in this year’s Cup of Excellence competition. For us, this is not just a high score. It is a confirmation of the long-term work of the people at the farm, the relationships we build in the coffee world, and proof that exceptional coffees still matter. At La Bohème Café, we have been dedicated to Cup of Excellence for a long time. Our founder Charles Fleer is also a regular judge in producing countries and actively participates in discovering some of the world’s best coffees.
