March and April at La Bohème Café were not just another couple of months on the calendar. It was a period when coffee once again proved to be something much more than just a beverage. It was about connecting people, ideas, and making a real impact.
Prague as a hub for coffee dialogue
One of the key moments was the participation of our founder, Charles Fleer, in discussions organized by Cropster, which this year turned Prague into the center of the global coffee community.
Conferences like Cropster Coffee Impact Conference 2026 and From Bean to Impact opened up important topics – from sustainability to new regulations like EUDR, which fundamentally affect the entire coffee supply chain.
It was inspiring to be part of these conversations. Because for us, coffee has always meant a relationship – between the farmer, the roaster, and the person holding the cup.
Coffee on the move: from Prague to San Diego
While Prague was buzzing with discussions, Charles also traveled across the ocean to the World of Coffee San Diego 2026.
Meeting farmers, partners, and friends from all over the world reminded us once again why we do what we do. Direct relationships are not a trend. They are a foundation.
Every journey back means new stories, new coffees, and new inspirations that gradually make their way into your cups.

A community that sticks together
Spring was also about meeting here at home.
At the Makro Czech Gastro Fest 2026, we had the opportunity to meet hundreds of people from the gastronomy world. We shared our vision, tasted coffees and teas together, and reaffirmed that quality and detail have a firm place in this industry.
At the same time, it was a moment for us to recall our role - we are not just another roastery. We are a long-term wholesale partner that helps shape coffee culture in gastronomy. We brought specialty coffee to Makro even when it was not the standard, but rather a vision.
Today, it is the direction the entire market is taking. And we are proud to have been there from the beginning.
At Barista of the Year 2026, we once again stood in the midst of a community that moves coffee forward every day - through experience, passion, and continuous improvement. It was days full of focus, energy, and respect for the craft. From the competition stages to conversations at our booth - everywhere you could feel how strong and connected the Czech coffee scene is.
And we also had a very personal reason for pride. Our Chu Pham fought his way to the finals in the Cup Tasters discipline. Seeing him among the best was a reminder that behind every cup is not just coffee - but also people who put their time, talent, and heart into it.
When coffee helps
Perhaps the most important part of this period, however, took place outside the world of events.
We got involved in supporting the organization ROSA – Women's Centre, z.s., which helps women experiencing domestic violence.
Because we believe that coffee can be more than just a taste experience. It can be a gesture. Support. Real help. Every cup, every small step - it all makes sense.
